Calendar of Events

This is a calendar of SJCM related events. For a complete list of local Social Justice related events, please go directly to the events page of our sister organization, the Marin Peace and Justice Coalition.

We believe that education is the first and most important step to effective activism. SJCM may not investigate nor endorse the agendas of all the organizations sponsoring an event. We only hope you will attend them in a spirit of open tolerance.

If you're interested in past events, you might find them on one of these pages: 2015, 2014, 2013.

Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley

The Task Force on the Americas is screening Jesse Freeston's film Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley. It is the story of the 2009 Honduran Coup and follows 2000 farming families who take over plantations of the most powerful man in the country, with no plans of giving them back.

On the morning of June 28, 2009, democratically-elected President Manual Zelaya was forcefully expelled from the country during a US-supported military coup. Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley follows three key members of the farmers' resistance as they build their new communities on occupied land and agitate for a more democratic state while trying to survive the regime's violent response.
